People get fined for having their dogs off a leash. Then they complain that they have no choice because they don't have a dog-park where their dogs can run wild.
My one cent (we're in a recession): There's no excuse to having your dogs off a leash. If you get caught drinking and driving you can't complain that you don't have bars at walking distance from your home.
Dogs off their leashes often run over to my dogs and try to play with them, and because I don't have friendly dogs I find myself often dragging them away to avoid a fight. And I have a baby, and I want to know he can practice his walking without a friendly dog trying to jump on his face.
It's a non-starter, really. In my humble opinion.
And the beauty of it all is that I saw this debated on the Sun Forums, where souls go to to die, and I found this debate finally crossing Party-lines and name-calling. Sure, someone advocated shooting dog-owners, and sure, someone said, "If you don't have a Dog playing in the Park, stay out of the park ! ! !" But overall, I'm glad to find myself agreeing with most of the comments there.
I actually commented about that there, which now will probably offend everyone and make someone there call me a traitor again. That's what happened last time I commented there. I know it's a horrible place, but I just can't get away.

There IS a dog park in Canton and people still let their dogs run off leash at the Canton waterfront park. It makes me insane. A few years ago, a large lab knocked my 3 year old over and then jumped on me (with baby on my hip) and got mud all over my pants when we were over at the water watching the boats.
Not to mention that I routinely pick dog crap off the sidewalk in front of my house. I don't have a dog.
Hey, if the city starts fining people for dog mess, there should be PLENTY of money to pay for Sheila Dixon's defense!
When I lived in Canton, I had a small patch of grass under a tree in front of my rowhouse. It was always FULL of dog poop. So disgusting. I didn't get a dog when I lived in the city, because I didn't want to have to deal with the walking and such. Leashes aren't optional, in a park or on the streets, unless you are in a dog park. I just don't see where people can argue that it is their right to let their dog run loose?
MommyK, they fines would be $25 gift certificates. I'd love to be able to let my dogs run around, and maybe when one day I move to a farm I'll be able to do that, you know?
CaraBee, first of all, I had to re-read that last sentence just to make sure. But yes, the word loose appears to mean loose rather than lose. Happy Days! One day I'll read a blog where someone writes loose and means lose, and I'll throw the computer out of the window.
I have a small fenced yard now, where the dogs can't run much, but they can at least go without ending up fighting other animals or be subjected to dogs running at them and me having to drag them away because they're not friendly with other dogs.
