This post has been brought to you by the words: Cuts, Bankruptcy, and Furlough.

Don't you feel like you're being blackmailed when you read that the murder rate rose in November when city police cut overtime? Hope you enjoyed "the worst November in nine years."

Now that the Tribune is filing for bankruptcy, does it mean the end of the b paper? Let them keep their online site and get rid of the print version. That's okay. If I want to get my hands dirty with ink all over them I can always read the City Paper.

Don't you love learning new words? This month, my new word is furlough. Thanks, crappy economy, for the education. And to think that a year ago I didn't even know what foreclosure meant...

furloughI took this picture above from the Sun's furlough article. Hey, I know this building. That's where I took this picture:

I thought the crime rate went up because Mayor Carcetti cut the police budget to put it all into the schools. Oh wait, sometimes I forget that The Wire isn't actually real.

It's embarrassing, but I'm only at the beginning of season 3. I watch it with my wife, and she's busy, and... I think what you're talking about is in season 4, right? Poor Sobotka.

OM, I promise no more spoilers, but yes, Carcetti does win the election, and you're going to have to wait until season 5 to see what I'm talking about. I just finished the series and I wish there was more to watch. Frank (and Zigg and Nick) Sobotka was one of so many tragic characters. D'Angelo Barksdale too.

A friend working in Central Booking told me she saw (and interviewed as part of his intake process) the real Barksdale after he was arrested for assault, which at least means the real one is alive (and apparently doing well, apart from this one-off fight with a neighbor).

Looks like the inspiration for Carcetti is doing pretty well for himself too.
