Once upon a time, The Baltimore Sun was a big deal, back when an Anti-Semite H.L. Mencken, the man Christopher Hitchens dreams of becoming, was its symbol. But things change.
There was an obsession with scandal-seeking over community reporting.
There was a bottom line that put emphasis on classified advertising.
There were character assassinations.
And then there's the internet.
And now, when the Sun is about to share content with the Washington Post, in a last effort to survive, I have to wonder.
Because when I drive on 83 at night and see The Sun building has been transformed into The UN building, I wonder, Do they know the S doesn't light up? Do they care? I know we're in a recession, and I know Sun journalists must be frantically looking for online work, but can't a concerned citizen just donate the money to fix this sign? Either that happens or The Sun stops pretending it's still alive.

The Post is handing on by a thread albeit a thicker one, so don't expect that light to be fixed any time soon.
Oh, shame... I just realized they finally fixed their sign. It's the Baltimore Sun once again. So now all they have to do is get a readable font and people might actually read the paper.
