Us and them

In high-school, whenever I saw the principal, I noticed she looked at me in a funny way, like she knew I was about to do something bad. I wasn't. I was on my way to class and she'd look at me like she thought I was on my way to skip the class and go home. Or worse. Like I was on my way to set the school on fire.

What's that got to do with the story of the police arresting a seven-year-old kid and bragging about it?

Well, just ask the kids' family and neighbors.

In high school, the principal was my enemy, and because of that, school was my battlefield. As long as police officers continue to abuse their power and avoid reaching out to the residents, police and the system it protects will be the enemy to a growing number of residents, and the streets of Baltimore will continue to be the battlefield.

I agree. Kids need nurturing not policing.

It's like the entire plan to make it a better city is for policing the public rather than creating ties between the police and the public.
